Longest salami in the World

2020-10-22

A world record was created in the Tandil of Argentine town on February 9th.

A giant sausage was tied to a wooden frame so that its actual length could be measured. Measuring 99.5 meters in length and 278 kilograms in weight, this salami successfully set the world record for the longest salami in the world. The world-record salami will be presented to the public at the 37th annual Sierra Culinary Festival.

The process to make nearly 100 meters of sausage is very complicated. Organizer Mariano Frias said the giant sausage took 36 days and more than 100 people to make.

"You have to be very careful and have an experienced and well-coordinated team."

"The 100 people have to cooperate with each other," Frias added. "Any wrong folding of the salami creates a pressure difference at the top and can cause the salami to crack or break."

Tandil is known for the quality of sausages worldwide and the producers have been awarded an International Origin Appellation certificate for sausages since 2011. Since then, they have been promoting their sausages in a bid to set records.

Before that, they also broke their own world record, a serving of sausage featured 87.56 meters in length and 262 kilograms in weight.

Some salamis were distributed to 10,000 participants, others were delivered to Tandil Food Bank for auction, and the rest were sent to restaurants in the area to allow as many people as possible to taste it.
